Salinas boasts of superb ecotourist private jaunts, and the Salinas Speedway is a mecca for car racing enthusiasts. But for families, perhaps the most famous entertainment spot is the Albergue Olímpico.
As you can guess from the name, it’s a sort of sporting facility that’s often used by professional athletes here. And while it may be interesting to pay tennis or baseball here, for most families the athletic complex isn’t the point of the visit. For the most part it’s the entertainment park that compels people to come here in droves. One fee covers everything, and once you’re inside you can do just about anything you want.
When you come here, make sure you have extra clothes, bathing suits, and towels for everyone.
For kids, the entire day can be spent in the water attractions. There’s a ton of fun in the wave pool among the water parks, and they can also enjoy the many slides in the area. Take your kids to the wave pool right away, so that they can get their floating devices. There are two pools exclusively for kids with proper controls for the entrance and exit. There’s also adult supervision as well, so your kids remain safe as they enjoy themselves.
There are areas in the water parks for adults as well, just in case you get envious of the kids.
For adults, you can play mini-golf here as well. It’s a fun way to relax and of course even the kids can play too.
For the more adventurous, there’s the rock climbing area to try out. Once you get to the top, you get down through a zipline.
You can take a stroll here and relax, as you enjoy the aviary and the botanical gardens. Inside there’s also a museum as well, which features highlights in Puerto Rican sports history.
The food inside is quite exotic, as they offer genuine Puerto Rican cuisine. You can’t bring food from outside though. The drinking water here is very clean as well.
The prices are quite reasonable, as you only pay $16 per person. The money goes towards the local high school. Inside, food prices are also very affordable.
The amusement park opens at 10 am and closes at 5 pm, and that means you don’t really have enough time to enjoy everything. Since the Albergue Olímpico is quite popular, you may want to come here early to avoid the long lines. Some people even recommend coming in at 7am just to be on the safe side. You could easily waste two hours standing in line if you arrive later in the day. But the fact that people tolerate this is a testament of how enjoyable it is inside once you get in.
The only problem is that at 10am the place isn’t really fully open yet. It’s sort of like it’s still trying to wake up. But they take the 5pm closing time seriously, and in fact things wind down by 4:30pm or so. It doesn’t seem like enough time, but then you can always come back tomorrow. For more information you can visit the Albergue Olímpico website here.
