Places To Visit In Puerto Rico

Jobos Beach

Jobos Beach
November 11th, 2014

With so much emphasis on San Juan, a lot of beautiful spots in Puerto Rico are often overlooked by tourists who are looking for a great time with family and friends. It’s a shame though because spots like Jobos Beach deserve to be noticed.

Of course, you can also say that Jobos Beach is popular enough, and you may even think it is too popular. After all, most people who drop by in Isabela in the northwestern part of Puerto Rico consider a visit to Jobos Beach virtually mandatory.

Part of its appeal is its simple beauty. It’s compelling. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures, since the terrain is absolutely gorgeous.

But for most people, Jobos is a surfer’s paradise. No list of surfing beaches in Puerto Rico is complete without a mention of Jobos Beach.

There’s also a sort of cooperative atmosphere going on around here. If you plan to surf here for the first time, you can ask the locals for advice. They’ll be glad to give you tips on how to surf safely. There are also no “official” lifeguards around, but surfers and other beach visitors look out for one another. Here’s a video showcasing the beach as well as the surfing opportunities it offers:

As a visitor, you need to do your part by making sure you keep your area clean, and that you take care of your trash properly. You will hear from other people if you make a mess.

What To Do in Jobos Beach

Surfing is not the only exciting activity you can do at Jobos Beach. You can also try out adventures such as kite surfing, wind surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, and even fishing. You can also just swim around, although you need to be mindful of the current. Swimmers are well-advised not to go out too far.

There are great spots for families, while young people may congregate with music of their own. You can find a relaxing spot easily enough under a palm tree, although you can always just use an umbrella.

Accommodations in Jobos Beach

There aren’t many hotels here, but there are quite a few guesthouses that can fulfill your needs. The prices may go up during tourist season, but you can also find more reasonable rates inland.

There are also lots of nice restaurants and bars along the beach. The bars are fantastic, and the prices they charge are more than reasonable. You have lots of options here, so you can enjoy taking a short walk sampling drinks from each place. The food is also good, and the empanadas sold in the streets are heavenly.

All in all, a visit to Jobos Beach will complete your stay in Isabela, and for some this is in fact the only reason to visit Isabela at all. Surfing is awesome, the people are nice and friendly, and the bars offer great choices, and the prices are wonderful for your budget.
