Places To Visit In Puerto Rico

Paseo De La Princesa

Paseo de la Princesa
September 24th, 2014

Paseo de la Princesa has a very romantic atmosphere and it’s the perfect place for couples and even friends to visit. More than 300 reviews rated this place as “excellent” and another 100 or so people say it’s “very good”. But what is it about the Paseo de la Princesa that makes it so alluring?

The Paseo de la Princesa is an esplanade that sits right outside the city walls of San Juan. You can find it on the south side of Old San Juan near Plaza de Hostos and Plaza Darcenas, and it’s just right beside the dock where cruise ships can be found.

Enjoying a Romantic Stroll

It was constructed in the 1800s, and it has a very distinct European vibe. All around you the illumination is provided by period streetlamps, which are spread out among the beautiful trees. As you walk along the esplanade you’ll find statues here and there, while benches are scattered for people to just sit on and relax as they take in the wonderful ambiance.

At certain points you’ll encounter street entertainers and fruit vendors selling their wares from carts. At the end of the stroll sits the awesome Raíces Fountain, which is a spectacular statue with water features that symbolizes the Spanish, African, and Taino heritage of Puerto Rico.

The views here are awesome, and you won’t be faulted if you’re tempted to take lots of pictures as you take a stroll. The views of the oceans are spectacular, the museums look especially impressive, the castles loom imposingly, and the historical sites around you seem alive.

Paseo De La Princesa

All in all, it’s probably the most romantic promenade in all of Puerto Rico, and it’s understandable why the “loveless” will find the place a bitter reminder of their isolation. But even for many singles, it gives them a hopeful reminder that romance is well and truly alive.

Daytime and Weekend Fun for the Family

At night and especially during the weekends, it is also a place to party and celebrate. Just the fact that you’re in Paseo de la Princesa is a good enough reason to celebrate, and you can also toast to the weekend. During the day there may be lots of local artists and street performers in the area, and perhaps you can get a wonderful meal in El Cafe de la Princesa. During the daytime there are many families enjoying their time in Paseo de la Princesa, and you should bring your kids here as well. They’ll love it here for sure.

It’s romantic, it’s festive, it’s exhilarating, and best of all, it’s free. What more can you ask for? Paseo de la Princesa is a magical place, and here you can experience a moment of joy without a care in the world.
