Puerto Rico Marathon and Half Marathon Events

Marathon Racers
December 24th, 2013

Puerto Rico hosts one major marathon per year and several half marathons. Running in Puerto Rico marathons not only offers you a fitness challenge but a travel experience allowing you to enjoy the island and the scenic vistas during your stay. Below you will find information on these events that may be of help.

The 2014 Puerto Rico Marathon

So you’ve trained day in and day out, preparing yourself for the ultimate test of a runner’s endurance—a marathon. Perhaps you are looking to participate in the Boston Marathon but need to complete a qualifying race first? Regardless of your reasons, entering the Puerto Rico Marathon will be a definite test of your endurance and can possibly qualify you for entry into the prestigious Boston Marathon.

The event will begin with the Puerto Rico Marathon Expo which will be held at the Caribe Hilton Convention hall on Friday March 21st, 2014. The two-day Puerto Rico Marathon is free and open to the public. The Expo will serve as the Event Center and it is where race participants must go to pick up their race packets. Race participants must attend the Expo on March 21st or March 22nd with a valid photo I.D. in order to pick up their packets. No packets will be issued on race day.

This year’s race will be held on Sunday March 23rd in sunny San Juan, Puerto Rico. Registration fees for the full marathon will be $125.00 until March 11th or you can register at the Expo on March 21st for $135.00.

Participants are encouraged to train in order to insure their ability to complete the 26.2 mile course in six hours ( a 14 minute per mile pace). Due to city permits and course restrictions, participants who do not reach the half way point by 8:30 am will be bussed back to the finish line.

The Puerto Rico Marathon is a USATF certified course and a Boston Marathon qualifying race.

2014 Half Marathons in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico Half Marathon

The Puerto Rico half marathon will also be held on Sunday, March 23rd. Race packets must also be picked up during the race Expo held at the Caribe Hilton on March 21st & 22nd. The Puerto Rico Half Marathon is a USATF certified course as well.

San Blas Half Marathon

Billed as the best half marathon in the world, last year’s event attracted runners from over fifty countries. This year’s event will be held on February 9th, 2014. Hosted by the Delta Phi Delta fraternity, registration forms and contact phone numbers are available on the San Blas Half Marathon website.

Divas Half Marathon

The Divas organization sponsors half marathons throughout the United States. These races are for women only. This two day health and fitness event will be held at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico from November 8th to the 10th.  Fees for the half marathon range from $80.00 to $120.00 depending on the registration date. Register online at the Divas Half Marathon website.
