A lot of people visit Puerto Rico for the beaches, where they can swim, surf, or snorkel to their heart’s content. Or maybe it’s the natural wonders and adventures they are after – riding zip lines while admiring the mountains and the forests below. But then again, there are also some tourists who are more interested in immersing themselves in Puerto Rican culture, and for that the Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery is a good place to start.
Not many people have seen the place, but those who have paid a visit here have said that the experience has been well worth it. Just about everyone calls it a “must-visit” place, especially if you’re looking for some nice art to admire or buy. They make good souvenirs, and they’re more memorable than shirts.
To visit, you only need to go to Vieques, which is already a popular tourist spot. But the Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery may take some effort to find, and it’s very easy to miss if you’re not aware of its existence. It’s on Main Street in Isabel II, in the Hotel Carmen on Calle Munoz Rivera. If you’re already in Vieques, maybe you can give them a call at 787-741-1343 to ask for directions.
What Should You Expect?
The gallery is actually quite a pleasant place, in stark contrast to some museums and galleries which tend to be rather stuffy. In the Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery it is very airy and open, so claustrophobes need not feel cramped.
Every month, the gallery holds monthly openings, so you can hobnob with local artists and celebs while sipping fine wine. The art is mostly landscapes, often the creation of the owner Siddhia Hutchinson and other local artists. Since cultural events aren’t really all that common in Vieques, these monthly openings are quite important to the local artistic community.
And then every year, they hold a benefit art auction for the Vieques Humane Society. This 2015, 12-by-12 original art works will be displayed from March 13 to 19, and on the last evening there will be a grand finale exhibition and reception to be concluded with the auction.
But even on a regular day, you will definitely find something you like here. The landscape paintings are just one example of the many art pieces inspired by the natural wonders of the region. You may also find textiles and prints which were creatively influenced by the El Yunque National Rainforest, which is one of Siddhia Hutchinson’s favorite places.
If you want your art to be a bit more functional, then Siddhia Hutchinson can also accommodate your preferences. Hutchinson also designs and sells gorgeous kitchenware. They can range from single coffee mugs that are unique, to elegant dinner sets that can grace the family dining table for more formal dinners.
Whether you go for decorative pieces or more functional kitchenware, there’s no doubt that you’ll find the perfect keepsake at the Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery.
