The Best Golf Courses in Puerto Rico

Playing golf. Club and ball on tee
December 3rd, 2013

From the flamboyant to the intensely demanding, Puerto Rico has an impressive line of golf resorts that will surely energize you and make your game a refreshing challenge. Your swing will never get old in these top golf resorts in Puerto Rico.

Dorado Beach Resort & Club

Dorado has a host of amenities to make your stay comfortable, but when you go there, you mainly go for its 4 championship courses, the stuff of which legends are made. Golf titan Jack Nicklaus has ranked the 4th hole of the Dorado’s East Course as one of the world’s top ten holes.  The West Course, with its par-3 holes have frustrated many avid golfers. Will you rise to the challenge and be among those who do not acknowledge its reputation as Dorado’s toughest? When you want to have an easy start, you’ll enjoy Dorado’s Sugarcane Course. However, remember that it’s only easy at the start. Watch out for its back nine. As for the Pineapple Course, you’ll get a measure of welcome relief with this Dorado course which is easier compared to the other three.

Wyndham El Conquistador Resort and Country Club

If you enjoy hobnobbing with celebrities from politics, Hollywood and the music industry, you’ll love El Conquistador. The great news about El Conquistador is that they are experts at making their guests feel like royalty, celebrity or not.

This well-known luxury resort is home to a breathtakingly beautiful view, harmonizing with the artistically designed statuary, set off by fountains, explosions of color in the foliage, and the lavish trellises. It houses 22 shops and an impressive casino. Guests will never go hungry with its various restaurants serving all kinds of globally famous cuisine, including Asian, Caribbean, Italian,  American, French, Mediterranean, and Mexican.

As for the game itself, the infamous Diente De Viento (Teeth of the Wind) 5th hole lets you tee off straight into the wind, which will, of course, make your ball unable to go far. There’s no need to feel bad though, if you don’t play at a professional level, because aside from golf, you can also indulge in swimming, scuba diving, fishing, and sailing.

Royal Isabela

If you are used to moving around on golf courses with caddies at your beck and call, you’ll surely miss all that help in Puerto Rico, because they are not part of the “usual package” in golfing tours.

However, at Royal Isabela, you have some of the most attentive and friendliest caddies in the world.   On top of that, you’re sure to have a grand time at this golf resort because of its toned down ambiance. This does not mean however, that the resort lacks tourist amenities. On the contrary, it is a well designed and highly luxurious boutique resort that has limited casitas that are only for the enjoyment of die-hard fans and enthusiasts of the sport.

Palmas del Mar

Two championship 18-hole golf courses give much joy to the guests of Palmas del Mar.  Golf legend Gary Player designed the challenging Palm Course with its bunkers, water hazards, and rolling greens and architect Reese Jones designed the Flamboyán Course. In fact, this has been ranked by Barron Magazines one of the five best Caribbean golf courses.

Coco Beach Golf & Country Club

The main attraction at Coco Beach is its 36-hole course with different levels and settings. The Lakes Course is built around manmade lakes, and are ideal for putting. The Ocean Course is made challenging by the Atlantic breeze that can blow hard or soft, depending on the time of the year.

The Mountain Course has a rainforest setting, ideal for golfers who want an air of intrigue and mystery. The Palms Course showcases plenty of palm trees, reminding you that you are having the best golfing time of your life in glorious Puerto Rico.
